CPI

Consumer price index

The price of a fixed basket of goods and services bought by households; its yearly change is the inflation rate.

A consumer price index tracks the cost of a representative basket over time. Inflation is usually quoted as the percentage change of the index over twelve months. National indexes differ in what they include and how they weight it, which is why the euro area uses the harmonised HICP for comparison.
