Composite leading indicator

The OECD's index of series that turn six to nine months before GDP; 100 is trend growth.

The OECD's composite leading indicators combine, for each country, a handful of series that have historically turned before the economy did: order books, building permits, confidence surveys, share prices, interest-rate spreads. The result is amplitude-adjusted so that 100 marks the long-term trend and the swings match those of GDP.

Below 100 the economy is expected to grow under trend. Falling means the gap is widening, which is why the threshold on worldstat.us is both below 100 and falling. The indicator is revised for several months after first publication.
