seasonally adjusted

Data with the regular yearly pattern removed

The series with predictable seasonal swings, such as Christmas hiring or summer holidays, statistically removed so months can be compared.

Unemployment rises every January and retail sales every December regardless of the economy. Seasonal adjustment estimates that recurring pattern and removes it so that a change from one month to the next reflects something real. Almost every monthly series on worldstat.us is seasonally adjusted by its publisher; the adjustment itself is revised as new years arrive, which is one source of the revisions shown on indicator pages.
