Decision Maker Panel

The Bank of England's monthly survey of chief financial officers

A monthly Bank of England survey of about 2,500 firms' finance chiefs on their sales, prices, employment, wages and uncertainty.

The Decision Maker Panel was set up in 2016 by the Bank of England with Stanford and Nottingham universities to measure business uncertainty around Brexit. It now runs monthly and asks firms for realised and expected growth in sales, prices, employment and wages, and for the probabilities they attach to each outcome, which gives a measure of uncertainty as well as a central expectation.

worldstat.us uses the expected employment growth over the next twelve months, as a three-month average: when firms on balance expect to cut staff, the reading falls below zero.
